Yunnan New Film Project (YNFP)
I The introduction of Yunnan New Film Project (YNFP)
Yunnan New Film Project (YNFP) was first launched in 2001 by the Chinese Government’s Publicity Department to commemorate the Chinese film industry’s centenary. Within China it is regarded as a landmark cultural act, providing a platform from which the next generation of young Chinese filmmakers can explore their creative potential and encourage the growth of a stronger domestic film industry. The project is led by (Lola), already well known for launching the New Film Project for Chinese Young Directors in 2001, and is supported by ten internationally recognized female filmmakers from the Chinese Mainland, Taiwan and Hongkong. From September 2006 to September 2007, these ten young directors will each lead the production of one film at a different location within Yunnan province. The plots and aesthetic will therefore be in part inspired by Yunnan’s diverse culture, climate, and geography. By focusing on these attributes the Yunnan regional government hopes to attract increased interest from abroad and foster it’s nascent economic and cultural relations with the international community.

The introduction of the Chief Producer Lola
Lola has been a recognized name within China since the launch of her New Film Project for Young Chinese Directors in 2001, and has since devoted her time to helping young Chinese directors realize their ambitions. This, her latest project, involves a new team of talented filmmakers and a fresh take on the use of technology in the creative process. Lola believes the YNFP is a bold venture with real potential not only to stimulate the Chinese film industry, but also to encourage China’s growing cultural dialogue with the global community. Not surprisingly, in 2006 Variety Magazine named Lola as one of China’s Twenty Most Influential Female media personalities.
